Şübhəsiz ki, əgər Stiven Spielberq, Ceyms Kameron, Kristofer Nolan, Martin Skarsez, Kventin Tarontino və bir çox digər məşhur rejisorlar indiyədək filmlərini lentə alırlarsa, şübhəsiz onlar lentin üstünlüyünə əmindirlər. Hətta hamının ən keyfiyyətli film formatlarından biri hesab etdiyi İMAX, adi filmlərdən fərqli olaraq 35mm deyil, sadəcə 70mm enində olan lentə alınıb.

Kristofer Nolan lent işlədən rejisorların arasında ən sadiq olanıdır. Yes, all these movies were shot on Kodak Motion Films. Most people do not believe while hearing this for the first time. However, those who have a knowledge about Hollywood are aware of this fact, I hope. Several famous movies and almost majority of romantic movies are captured on film. If you still do not believe in absolute advantage of film over digital, let’s think logically: If film is not better, then why logical movie director would (1) capture movie on film, (2) spend dozens of additional days to scan film 2 hours of which would make between 8-16 km depending on frames per second (of course thay capture film in several times, but not in single 16 km film) (3) work on received digital material, add special effects and make mounting work (4) add sound and finally release the movie?

It is doubtless that, if such famous film directors as Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, Christopher Nolan, Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino and many other still use film, they believe in its advantage over digital. Even IMAX which is considered as one of highest quality movie formats, is nothing else than 70mm film instead of standard 35mm.

Cristopher Nolan is the most devoted to film movie maker. During his whole career, he never used a digital camera for capturing movie. To the question “why you still use film?” he answered “For the last 10 years, I’ve felt increasing pressure to stop shooting film and start shooting video, but I’ve never understood why. It’s cheaper to work on the film, it’s far better looking, it’s the technology that’s been known and understood for a hundred years, and it’s extremely reliable.”

In general, the reason why several moviemakers prefer film is that it provides better and more colors, is more realistic, as Nolan said is more affordable, as many editors said it is easier to work with effects and mounting, and simply because it is the gold standard of movie making.

Also, should mention that new generation of movie makers do not show great interest in the film industry. Currently, it cost about 50 million US Dollars for Kodak to keep Motion Films’ manufactory which is mainly paid thanks to such devoted movie makers as Christopher Nolan, James Cameron, and others. However, thanks to successful policy of Kodak and Kodak Alaris companies film are becoming popular again in both photography and movie making industries. This year Kodak Promised to repair manufactory of Positive (Slide) film Ektachrome and a new generation of consumer Super 8 Format film “video” cameras. But we will talk about in our next articles.
